Welcome to “Cruise Ship Retirement Living”

April 17, 2019/in News/by Gil Zeimer

Senior living communities of all types is one of our specialties here at SGD. While each has a slightly different value proposition, all of them offer an experience of better living.

Many upscale senior living communities prefer to call themselves “cruise ships that never dock”. And why not? Both luxury liners and luxury retirement living communities offer a choice of dining rooms and cuisines, five-star service, concierges, fitness centers, swimming pools, putting greens, nightly entertainment, movies, beauty salons, libraries, guest speakers, cocktail lounges and worship services.

Until now, the only things missing were unwavered adventure and exotic ports of call.

A few forward thinking senior living communities have moved onto the high seas thus providing their residents the opportunity to cruise the world, visit exotic ports of call and watch the world float by from the comfort of their own private balconies.

A World apart: “The World” cruise ship

Calling itself “the largest privately owned residential ship on the planet”, The World is a luxury 644-foot, 43,000-ton vessel that launched in 2002.

Home to 165 residences, The World travels to 150 of Earth’s most exotic destinations, taking about two years to circumnavigate the globe.

Residents hail from about 45 countries, relax in extremely well-appointed suites with private verandas, dine in six unique restaurants on Michelin-level cuisine, enjoy visiting each port for several days and generally love the most luxurious retirement community imaginable.

The World presents numerous amenities, such as an expansive lobby, deli and grocery store, boutique, fitness center, billiard room, golf simulator, putting greens, full-sized tennis court, jogging track, a world-class spa, swimming pool and cocktail lounges.

Some residents choose to live on board full-time. Others jet to the ship throughout the year or when The World drops anchor in their favorite port.

The World even has its own crew of leading industry Expeditions experts to lead discussions and tours.

The next best vessel in retirement cruising: “M/V Narrative”.

The M/V Narrative, which is owned and operated by Storylines, is currently undergoing a $40 million renovation and will set sail in early 2020.

Ironically positioned like The World, “Introducing the largest private residence at sea”, this 722-feet, 53,000 tons and 630 Home At Sea Cruise Condominiums is considerably larger.

302 condo staterooms are available as cabin condos for full-time or part-time living. Tier 1 to tier 5 cabins range from approximately $440,000 to $3.283 million, plus monthly service fees.

Amenities are truly upscale with a three-level Culinary Experience Atrium featuring unique cuisines from around the world including a choice of restaurants, dining under the stars and an extensive menu.

The M/V Narrative also offer a Chef’s Table Market, where fresh local foods are brought on board for you to personally cook them in its resident Galley.

The onboard Spa and Wellness Center spans two decks with a full-service salon and fitness center.

Finally, Storylines University offers a global classroom at sea to support anyone’s thirst for knowledge with on-board curriculum to broaden one’s learning.

So, if you’re looking for something a little different from the typical land-living retirement life, pack your bags and hit the high seas for a luxury-living retirement cruise. All aboard, matey!
